when i walked out of my office at 4:54 pm on thursday afternoon, little did i know it would be another 4.5 hours before i'd walk through the door to my house.
the unseasonably torrential rainfall had dampened my commute by causing landslides along the sunol grade. this meant i had to either force james to endure a drive through heavy traffic and rain that would only save us an hour of time by using up 2/3 a tank of gas or suck it up and take the "bridge bus" they were providing as a consolation. from one train station to another and then onto a bus with 30 strangers forced to be in close proxmity, the adventure began.
the bus driver had never driven the 48 miles from san jose to tracy so he relied only on the navigation of the passengers. this is where the drama started. a group of misguided passengers took the wrong bus and expected to dropped off in livermore. the detour through the tight streets of livermore also caused a snarky exchange of words and eyerolls between the front of the bus and the back of the bus and lucky me...i was in the middle, just trying to take a nap and missing home desperately. i finally got off the bus at 9:04pm and it was good riddance to the bus ride from hell.
days like this remind me of the convenience i once had being only steps away from my firm when i lived in tumon. it was amazing that i barely had to drive my car for quite some time. it was a lifestyle that i could have lived without and instead move in with my parents. but not a single ounce of me could bare the thought of voluntary regression.
